Tribology in Reliability Engineering
نویسنده
چکیده
The tribological understanding of friction and wear mechanisms and the generation of reliable friction and wear data are of increasing importance for the determination of reliability of machinery and availability of plants and transportation systems. To be of real value in reliability engineering, the tribological data should be expressed in terms of endurance life and probability of failure. The minimum coefficient of friction and the minimum wear data are important scientifically and for optimal design and material development purposes, but they are of less relevance in reliability estimation. The scaling-up of our tribological knowledge from nanoand microcontacts to solid performance estimations and reliability predictions of large machines is a major challenge for the tribological society.

Green tribology: principles, research areas and challenges.
In this introductory paper for the Theme Issue on green tribology, we discuss the concept of green tribology and its relation to other areas of tribology as well as other 'green' disciplines, namely, green engineering and green chemistry. We formulate the 12 principles of green tribology: the minimization of (i) friction and (ii) wear, (iii) the reduction or complete elimination of lubrication,...

Aim The aim of this study is to compare the country output and citation impact as well as to assess the level of interdisciplinarity in the field of tribology research across the period 1998 – 2012. Data & Methods Bibliographic records related to tribology research were extracted from SCOPUS and Web of Science databases for the period of 15 years from 1998 to 2012. Macro-level scientometric ind...
متن کاملSelf-organization at the frictional interface for green tribology.
Despite the fact that self-organization during friction has received relatively little attention from tribologists so far, it has the potential for the creation of self-healing and self-lubricating materials, which are important for green or environment-friendly tribology. The principles of the thermodynamics of irreversible processes and of the nonlinear theory of dynamical systems are used to...
متن کاملChemical Dynamics of Monodispersed Iron Oxide Nanoparticles
This study is comprised of the synthesis and characterization of uniform fine particles of iron oxide in different shapes and sizes. Varying amounts of iron (III) chloride and sodium dihydrogen phosphate was heated at 98 oC for various periods, following the forced hydrolysis method. Scanning electron microscopic analysis showed that the shape and size of the precipitated particl...
